In the context of the celebrations of the World Tourism Day, which is celebrated on September 27, the Municipality of Funchal will promote, from September 27 to 30, the Tourism Week, with a calendar of activities marked by the presentation of various initiatives, ranging from exhibitions, guided tours, book launch, medal award of tourist merit, and lots of animation.
The program will start on Monday, September 27th, in the Market of the Lavradores, which will feature throughout the day (from 10:00 to 17:00) with several moments of animation, namely folklore performances, showcooking sessions, handicraft demonstrations, among others.
For 19h00, in the Nobre Hall of the CMF, the ceremony of the award of the municipal distinction “Touristic Merit 2021” to the Carreiros do Monte, thus recognizing the work of these men who, daily, on an iconic and emblematic journey, provide unique moments for tourists visiting Funchal and make the city’s name and images reach the four corners of the world.
On 28 September, from 11 to 12 hours, beginning at the main entrance of the Municipality of Funchal building, the guided tour “The City of Sugar” takes place. It is a circuit by emblematic sites related to the important economic cycle of Madeira, the cycle of the “White Gold”, with passages by the Museum The Sugar City, Casa João Esmeraldo, Museum of Sacred Art, and also the historical shops related to sugar, as is the case of the Santo António Factory.
On September 29 at 10:00 pm in the CMF Atrium, the exhibition “Concurso de Cinema e Video, Funchal 2021”, a show that brings together the 15 winning works of this initiative launched by Autarchy last June. It should be remembered that the contest had a total of 99 participants and was divided into 5 categories: Traditional Trade; Culture and Tradition; Gentes; Mar and Nature; and Secrets of Funchal.
Finally, on September 30, at 16 o’clock, the presentation of the “Secret Road of Funchal”, the seventh book of a collection that unravels various themes of tourist-pedagogical interest, which have greatly contributed to the formation of Funchal as a tourist destination of excellence.
