The Health Center of São Roque in Funchal has been given more medical reinforcement to ensure the response to the needs of the resident population in this parish.
Sara Figueiroa, 30, is a native of Funchal and was the proximity of the health unit to her residence that motivated her choice.
He completed his general and family medicine specialty in April this year, he performed his medical boarding school in Câmara de Lobos, made use of in Jardim da Serra, accompanied the vaccination against COVID-19 in the Curral das Freiras, where he also made use of it. Still during the medical boarding school, he also had the opportunity to accompany his advisor in Palliative Care. Outside of RAM, he held the internship in Psychiatry, in Lisbon.
After completing its specialty, since April, the new specialist has held recourse consultations at the Câmara de Lobos Health Center and, since August 12, has joined the team of the Health Center of São Roque. He currently shares his activity through consultations at the São Roque Health Center, but also carries out Open Consultation and Admission of Respiratory Patients (ADR) at the Health Center of Good Jesus and also supports vaccination against COVID-19, at the Vaccination Center of Funchal.
At the Health Center of São Roque, he took part in the list of users of the previous family doctor, Marília Fernandes, and from October he will follow users of another colleague who will leave the service for reasons of retirement. Its role is a majority elderly population with associated comorbidities, diabetes, hypertension, some users with oncological disease, users with toxyphilic habits (smoking and alcoholic) and, from October, will also accompany children and women in fertile age.
In the medium-term, Sara Figueiroa intends to monitor chronic pathologies such as hypertension and diabetes “since they are associated with many other complications at cardiovascular level and many users already have these complications.” This pretension aims to avoid the outcome at cardiovascular level, strokes and stroke, which are the main causes of death in Portugal, reveals the specialist doctor.
The regional secretary of health and civil protection, Pedro Ramos, and some leaders moved to the Health Center of São Roque on September 23 to welcome the new specialist who recently started functions in the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
