The Specialised Committee on Natural Resources and Environment referred the PSD draft resolution entitled “The Regional Strategy for Organic Farming and the next Community Support Framework” for debate in plenary.
This document recommends to the Regional Government that “the regional strategy for organic farming should generally increase public incentives in the next Community support framework for agriculture and rural development for installation, investment and maintenance projects in organic production methods, making it more attractive for new farmers to join, as well as for the reconversion of existing conventional production”.
In other words, “the law advocates the increase of organic farming products” within the “Community support framework 2021-2027”, Nuno Maciel explained.
To this he added the suggestion that “the premium for the first installation for young farmers who dedicate themselves full-time to this activity in a business mode should be increased, compared to the conventional production mode”.
It also asks that GESBA, the public banana sector management company, “to increase the production factors for organic farmers, as a complementary sign of clear commitment to sustainable growth.
The deputies of this specialized working group also gave a positive opinion, at the request of the Government of the Republic, to the “Draft Decree-Law that Ensures the implementation in the internal legal order of Regulation (EEC) No. 2919/85, which sets out the conditions of access to the regime reserved by the Revised Convention for the Navigation of the Rhine for vessels belonging to the Rhine Navigation - MM- (Reg. DL 688/XXII/2020). The opinion was adopted unanimously because it is a “law that may be important for Portuguese shipping companies and because the specific characteristics of the Autonomous Region of Madeira are also safeguarded”, said the committee’s chairman.
