The vice president of the Regional Government recalls the long dispute for Madeira to have ‘active voice’ in the Banco de Fomento, and also the victory that is the opening of the national credit lines, in what concerns European funds.
“We finally managed to bring Minister Pedro Siza Vieira to Madeira. It has always been very cordial to us, and I remember that for over a year I have been physically in Lisbon with the Minister, and by that time I had asked this request to consolidate the entry and presence of the Regional Government in the social capital of Banco de Fomento”, Pedro Calado, today, on the eve of the signature of the agious protocol.
“We had a period of negotiation, preparation, and tomorrow [today] we will sign this protocol, which we finally managed to materialize. In the background, Madeira will have the same conditions as the Azores will have. The main goal is to make all projects at national level of support for the business sector, we are even talking about credit and financing lines for companies, which come via Banco de Fomento, are accessible to all companies in the Region,” he explains.
This was “our great aspiration, for Madeira within the Banco de Fomento, for us to participate in all decisions and in all strategic areas of support for the business fabric and that Madeira had the same equal treatment. It is not important that the percentage of the social capital is held, provided that the Board of Directors and that the decisionmaking bodies have a presence and a word to say in the region”.
In addition to the protocol to be signed tomorrow, with the Minister for Economic Affairs, which allowed the entry and presence of the Regional Government in the social capital of Banco de Fomento, the Vice-President of the Regional Government yesterday highlighted another conquest of the Region.
On the margin of the trip to the port of Funchal, Pedro Calado noted that “another significant step that was taken, this with the Minister of Planning [Nelson de Sousa], was open the national lines of credit, and I recall that it is almost €2.7 billion coming to Portugal in terms of financing lines, in which the company of the Region will have access on an equal footing with any company at national level”.
That is, as Pedro Calado specifies, “there are no limits on loans, what is available at national level is also available to the companies in the region, these loans will be materialized through the Bank of Fomento and that is precisely what we intended, that our companies will be protected and safeguarded in this relationship with the funds coming from Europe. ”
Another issue that concerns Pedro Calado, and that will be today at the meeting that will keep with Pedro Siza Vieira, has to do with the announced end of the moratoriums, predictably in the end and September.
" We will take advantage of asking the Minister [of the Economy], something that is worrying about the end of the moratoriums “, said the Vice President of the Regional Government, adding that “we call it too early and we will try to raise the minister’s awareness of this issue”.
