Susana Prada was today in Ribeira Brava municipality where she delivered seven new mota4 to the Hydroagricultural Services of the company Águas e Resíduos da Madeira [ARM]. The event was also attended by Ricardo Nascimento, president of the local municipality, as well as the president of ARM, Amilcar Gonçalves.
On the occasion, the Regional Secretary of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change said that this investment, around 50 thousand euros, will ensure proper working conditions, safety and profitability of employees involved in the distribution of irrigation water (Levadeiros).
“These motorcycles, delivered to the Levadeiros, will allow them to provide a better service to farmers while ensuring better working conditions,” said the secretary of the Ministry, adding that these professionals have as their main task the unblocking of canals, making sure that the water arrives on time. “By traveling longer distances in less time, they will certainly speed up the delivery of water”, said Susana Prada.
It should be noted that, during the irrigation season, levadeiros are responsible for ensuring that water flows unhindered in the levadas and reaches the tornadoes of the various irrigators on time.
Currently, the ARM hydro-agricultural services have a fleet consisting of 23 vehicles and 88 motorcycles.
