The team at the Health Center of Caniço was strengthened by the entry of a new medical specialist in general and family medicine, since the past 12 of August.
Catherine Ornelas, 29, is the face of this new reinforcement. The doctor completed his general and family medical training this year and held his entire medical boarding school on the Portuguese continent in Lisbon. At the Regional Health Service, he held internships in the 6th year, in Gynecology and in General and Family Medicine.
Therefore, returning to Madeira and performing duties in Caniço is for the young doctor to fulfill him of a wish. “I like Madeira very much and finally managed to get back to the exercise of my profession I chose in the city of Caniço where I am natural,” he said.
The new specialist, besides taking over the conduct of appeal consultations, inherited part of the list of the previous family doctor, Orlandina Figueira, current director of the Good Jesus Health Center. It was the support of a very diverse population, children, pregnant and elderly.
The new doctor is very pleased with his workplace and reveals that the acceptance of the population is also very positive “people are very happy, they like it quite well and I feel very well received by the population”, he said.
Catarina Ornelas hopes to ensure the population of Caniço all the necessary assistance as a family doctor, and to strengthen the capacity of response in the area of family planning, in particular in the implementation of long-term contraceptive methods.
The regional secretary of civil health and protection, Pedro Ramos and some leaders moved to the Health Center of Caniço to welcome the new specialist who recently started functions in the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
